Your families health is important to you. (Talk about a huge understatement!)
Since you spend most of your time in your home- sleeping, hanging out, playing, seeing your children grow up, it makes sense to regularly consider home safety. By reducing dangers and maintain your home properly, you ensure that everyone can remain healthy and happy.
However, some threats aren’t obvious and can pass by us unnoticed.

You probably noticed from the title that dirty carpets may be an unnoticed threat. Please stay tuned as you will be able to answer this question for yourself very soon.

When a carpet is clean and sanitized, it can make the home warm, comfortable and stylish. But on the flipside, the carpeting in your home can hold a variety of microbes, dirt and allergens.
These include dust mites, molds, pet hair, dead skin cells, insect feces and other particles.
If not cleaned and sanitized regularly, your carpets can hold these contaminates deep down into its
fibers. In fact, your naked eye can’t see all of these particles! A filthy carpet that is full of microbes can make you feel ill and pose significant health risks.

Here’s a short list of some health risks from not regularly deep cleaning your carpets:

Respiratory Issues

Filthy carpets are a breeding ground for tiny bacteria like dust mites and molds. When disturbed by people walking on the carpets, they can become airborne and then inhaled. This can result in flu-like symptoms and other respiratory issues.  These health issues can vary from simple coughing and runny noses to cold-like symptoms, allergic reactions, even asthma attacks!

Skin Aggravations
Contaminated carpets can even effect your skin! Your skin can become irritated with redness, itchiness and even swelling. A common ailment that is caused by dirty carpets is Athletes Foot. When family members walk barefoot on a dirty carpet, fungi and bacteria can seep into cuts, wounds or other skin openings. This can compound into fungus infections and become itchy if not treated correctly. Dirty carpets can trigger asthma attacks in the form of rashes. Filthy carpets can trigger both asthma skin conditions and breathing issues.
Common Allergies
If you have allergy issues, dirty carpets can increase your chances of having more flare-ups. A pre-existing condition can worsen with contaminated carpets. This includes symptoms like itchy skin, watery eyes, sneezing and malaise.
So by now, you have figured out the initial question from our headline to be a resounding true! So what can you do about it to keep your family healthy and happy?
Here is a common question that many homeowners have…

Is Vacuuming enough?
Sure, a regular program of vacuuming is very important.  (A strong vacuum with a beater bar and heap filter is a must!)  But to make sure that your carpets are properly cleaned and sanitized deep down, a regular carpet cleaning program from a reputable company with a truck mounted is the best solution.
