Here’s a weird question for you, do you put bleach in your morning coffee?
I doubt it.
I am sure that you care about the health and well-being of you and your family. You might purchase natural products and organic food.
Even for those with a healthy lifestyle, many haven’t given much thought to green carpet cleaning. But it really is important. Why?
Using toxic carpet cleaners can affect a whole ecosystem, ending up in waste streams that leach into soils and drinking water sources. Using these harsh chemicals is like using bleach as a coffee creamer. Disgusting!
In years past, North Americans primarily used harsh cleaners like bleach to clean everything in the home. But that trend has changed. Green Cleaning has allowed carpet cleaners to avoid cleaners with strong chemicals and fumes. These cleaners are safe for people, kids and pets.
Now let’s talk about how some carpet cleaners use toxic cleaners and the advantages of green cleaners are to you and the environment.
Is Traditional Carpet Cleaning Poisonous?
What’s the real deal about normal carpet cleaning methods? First, let’s talk about the fumes, the smell of traditional cleaners. Maybe you love the new car smell (I know I do), but the reality is, it’s not good for you. New product smells are really chemicals that are off-gassing. Harmful chemicals are released into the environment. Normal carpet cleaners leave these harsh chemicals in the carpets to be released for weeks afterwards.
A particularly nasty chemical that is in a lot of normal cleaners is perchloroethylene, or“perc” for short. The EPA claims that it destroys your brain. Dry cleaners also use it, and many experience very negative health symptoms from using the chemical. Cleaners use chemicals like ethanol and ammonia that are corrosive and affect the nervous system, liver and kidneys. Some chemicals are thought to even cause cancer!
Why is Green Cleaning Superior?
Green carpet cleaning ingredients are a lot less harmful, some are even made of plants! Many other natural and ingredients like vinegar, essentials oils and baking sodas are also included.
Some cleaners use plain old clean water to clean carpets with a scientific process called oxygenation. Oxygenated water bubbles form in a special chamber and move through a cell that charges them with electricity. This helps the water break down dirt and wash the carpet.
Green cleaning is superior because it cleans effectively, and doesn’t harm you or the environment in any way.
